The quote is so sad, and yet so true. I think style is something in ones genetic makeup, you either have it or you do not. It is noted in a person who just has a natural knack for colors, materials, and the positive way of mixing them together but, in others, they just never seem to “get it right” or, at the least, like me, have to dig deep, and work harder to get there. I think in its base sense it is controlled by whether you are prone to thinking with the left or the right side of the brain. The wonderful thing about the brain though is the fact that you DO indeed have both sides. And you can use the influence of either side with practice.

I wasn’t going to say anything, but I’ve been told a couple of times, I need to offer more guidance to beginning models, so I will. I recently judged something with the theme of “Cubism” and though I know it is a difficult to interpret subject, I went away more than a little disappointed. Cubism at the most basic is to take a natural form and fragment it into something abstract. Period. How do I know? I researched it, I researched the words, I researched images. Took maybe 5 minutes to figure where I would have gone with this theme.

You get out of your Second Life Modeling career, exactly what you put into it. So if what you strive to do is lead, and create something bigger than yourself, in a virtual sense, the first step is always, stop and think. Where do I want to end up, how do I get there? period. Start with a concept, build the steps to how to succeed. It’s not like these “themes” happen every day, so when you DO have them, take a little time to get it right. I’m not talking about the pics of a blog, sure, like my pics here, the stylings need to be simple, because you are bringing a set item(s) to the attention of the viewer. I am only speaking of the mix and match theme projects we get asked to do for mags, or contests, or, like in the above “cubism”, a casting or class graduation.

As an example, the winter elf from yesterday. I created a look, and sent a pic to Skip, so he would know what was coming. I hate to show it, but here it is: Link: But then, I sat back, thought, what a load of crap. So I did it right, where do I want to end up, what do I want this winter elf to look like? How do I get there? And then went about putting the elements together, in what I hope was a more pleasing way. And yes, sometimes, it takes time. But why bother, if you aren’t going to give it your best? Jumps off Soap Box.

YAY! And the take from, there always is one. Don’t be a hater because someone always seems to be styled perfect all the time, they actually can’t help the way they are anymore than you can, its genetics. Use their styles to learn, network and learn from them WHY they put certain aspects of their styles together that way. And really, there is no penalty for researching the style you want to create, especially on theme based castings. Sometimes, even when I don’t have a theme to style, I research and pull from the Internet pics I like, styles I like, items that catch the eye, or “things to try” and pull them aside. Just ask Skip, sometimes I send him four or five pics with a “do you want to do any of these?” before I style. It’s okay to borrow imagination, just add your own flourish to it.

I know, this is a long one. I hope you read parts of it and took out what you wanted. If its all rubbish, then I am sorry to have wasted your time, but I hope, for at least a few of you, it was a help. I just want to leave you with the words of Coco Chanel. “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” For a taxi to L’Accessoire’s just click on their logo found on the right side of the page. Snow.Days.

Snow.Days.[sYs] just released a line of winter outfits, all stylish and perfect for boosting your chic wardrobe!

Let face it, Florida gets cheated. We don’t have seasons. We don’t have snow. We don’t have mini-vacations in the midst of the school year drudgery due to “snow days.” Bummer. When I was young I used to dream about how fun it would be to ditch school and play in the snow. Those children up there have it made. But I suppose these days, now older and without the need to purchase a coat or to feel the effects of the lack of sunshine, I’ve come to terms with what is lacking in my life. Flipside, I can walk along the beach in the winter wearing a pair of shorts and windbreaker. That should mean something right? Yes, it should mean something and it does. But drat it all, just once I’d love to flop back in the snow and make a snow angel.

Snow.Days. The new releases also include elegant jackets and pants combo’s in a variety of styles and materials, so don’t miss out!

I love Second Life modeling. I love the playfulness of the outfits, I love how a look can be so completely different from one model to another, depending on their style preferences. I love how really cool sets can be created for pictures and it doesn’t require a mop and bucket to clean up the mess afterward… Life is so good! Oh and don’t try this scene at home. Messy. Taxi:

Snow.Days. Elegant enough to make a Cao look posh, no?

Absence.Of.Color.

Absence.Of.Color.

It always amazes me the concept of white being every color possible combined and black being the absence of color. And somewhat less surprising that they match together so well being on opposite ends of the spectrum. I recently ran across a blogger’s challenge on a blog I subscribe to, Blogging Second Life. Link: I kind of like these challenges, they are fun, easy, and keep me thinking, and I just happened to have Diram‘s “Brigitte” in black and white. I think it was part of the Vintage Fair. Such a gorgeous creation with its mini skirt length, satin striped sleeves and face accentuating bow. And best of all, the hat was included! YAY! I love hats! The accessories were so easy, Je Suis’s “zebra” clutch, and Nardcotics “shana” pumps in a groovy zebra pattern. To give me a swanky polished look, I am wearing a very dramatic makeup, H.M.A.E.M.’s “Otero.” And they say Cao’s can’t look glamorous! All Slurl’s should be on the page at the top named “Last Known SLURL’s.”

While thinking about colors, or absense of, doesn’t it just make you crazy trying to match them? Especially matching the skin of your feet to your legs? For those interested, there is a free download out there that works really well called “Color Cop.” Link: What you do after downloading the application is open it, cam in really close to the skin on your leg just above the ankle, and drag the little “eye-dropper” over the skin area. This gives you the RGB (red, green, blue) numbers. You will have to check with the notes from your shoe designer, but so many of them these days have scripts that change the RGB by clicking a button on the shoe HUD and typing the numbers in open chat. So no more mismatched skin tones for models and divas! I hope you have a gorgeous day! <3

Sock.It.To.Me.

Sock.It.To.Me.

Yay! It’s Friday! I love the weekend’s of summer because if I’m not poking around traveling to fun places, I’m at least hanging out down at the beach with friends and family. But always when I am away, I have these random thoughts about my Second Life friends, the funny things they say, the incredible things they create. I am so lucky, because I have all of you! The models, designers, photographers, blogger’s and most of all friends! Very recently, a very good friend of mine, known for her professional photography skills, Kallisto Destiny, Link: branched out to designing. So I couldn’t wander away to the weekend without sharing these really cool outfits!

The one above is Drift’s “Retro Poof” dress in the “Shag Me” colors. Psychedelic and groovy, man! This adorable mini-dress is enough to make the Grateful Dead dream of making a comeback! Only accessories needed on this retro-cool chic outfit is the GoGo boots from Drakke!, the right on plastic “Garbo” glasses from Lelutka and, of course, this fab hairs from .+TGCY+.. It’s a gas!

Sock.It.To.Me.

Kalli seems to have run the spectrum because there was nothing more polar opposite than the hippy’s and the military. But this outfit is Drift’s “Eclectic military Scrunch dress, Semper Fi.” What a fun and summery dress this is! Sleeveless and loosely frame fitting, it is perfect for the hottest of days, yet rugged enough to withstand whatever adventures you find yourself in. The accessories are the Mandala cuff, Lelutka’s hat, hair from W&Y, Je Suis nails and LovelyMi makeup and last but not least the military standard, [GOS] GTFO boots.

Don’t have a Cao, man. I am almost done! Semper Fidelis, Kalli. It’s been groovy to get decked out in your new designs and I looked forward to many more! I have had so much fun being all retro, I’ve even included the tank for you, so you can start your journey this weekend! , Tank: <3

Catch.A.Falling.Star.

Catch.A.Falling.Star.

There is only about a week left for us to Help Emilia. For those who have already, I thank you. Every once in a while I like to think perhaps someone out there finds my blog helpful and not just a gazillion words that suck the time out of someones life. ;) The three Emilia designers I chose today, I chose for the differences in the outfits they a selling for Emilia. There truly IS something for everyone at this event! And remember, 100% of the profits go to the real world Emilia charity, it makes a difference in these people’s lives. Info on the Real Life Charity: Link:

In the above picture I am wearing “Back to Black” from Mila Tatham’s *SoliDea FoliEs.* If you are looking for jeans and a T-shirt, you won’t find it at *SoliDea FoliEs* but if you are looking for unique attention grabbing couture, Mila and her design lines will never disappoint you. The dress is uber feminine with its gorgeous pink ruffles and feathers. The Deco-ish hat the crowning glory. This outfit is stunning on and oh so glam! The only accessory is the Salome hairs in Sweeden from Lelutka. (Hair Fair exclusive)

Catch.A.Falling.Star.

The picture above shows the swanky mesh pantsuit from Nevery Lorakeet of *LpD* (Les Petites Details). In a retro cocktail party style, the pants are loose fitting and finely detailed, the halter top is sexy showing a deep vee of cleavage, it’s one of those outfits you will go back to again and again just for ease of style and its sophisticated look. The accessories, including the silver belt, are from Mandala, the hairs Salome from Lelutka in a powder shade, and the “Zebra” purse, also mesh, is from Je Suis.

Catch.A.Falling.Star.

And finally, for today, in a completely different style is the gorgeous (just look at the exquisite color!) “Athena” gown created by Vivien Emerald of Desir Couture. This satin gown is breathtaking in its movements, clings in the right places and enhances in others. The waistline is cinched with a matching satin bow and the one shouldered bodice has a gorgeous scarving that naturally enhances the bustline. The hair is Lelutka again, “Magdalen” this time, and the earrings “Cubics in Heaven” are PM, (Purple Moon). How could you not be the center of attention in this?

So with these new peeks at what can be yours, and the knowledge that you can so simply help others while gifting yourself, I hope you wander over and pick up items for your own unique styles! Muwah! Have a beautiful week! I’ve had so much fun, I’ve even included the taxi’s for you!

Risk.Care.Dream.Expect. ~Derek Davis

Four simple words with such impact. They seem so random and unrelated but in reality each word impacts the other creating a tanglible twining correlation. Every good dream requires some risk that you will have to care enough about the dream to take the risk and drat it all, if you are willing to take the risk you darn sure better expect to succeed. No? Isn’t that just how life is? I think we all struggle at times, just living can be a trying event, but imagine, awakening one day and your world as you know it is forever changed. Not due to any negligence on your part, but due to a cataclysm of nature. Walk a short moment with the feet of the residents of Emilia, Italy, google the photos, we live in such an open world, but please find it in your heart to risk, care, dream, and expect change, for them, for yourself.

Risk.Care.Dream.Expect. ~Derek Davis

The picture above is the incredibly beautyful Emilia “Daylight” sundress being offered by Aubry Brinner of Elmont for the Emilia project. The dress is haltered with a flowing skirt that tickles around the calves as you walk. It is color block banded just below the breasts to pull the viewer’s eyes upward. The only accessories are the Mandala earrings and JeSuis bracelet and nails. Four items that pull together well for a simple elegant casual look.

Risk.Care.Dream.Expect. ~Derek Davis

This second picture shows the gorgeous offerings of Chop Zuey, “Mignonette.” Such a pretty summer collection with its copper coloring and starfish like accentuation. This set would look just as good dressed up as dressed casually for a day at the beach and is of the quality we have grown to expect with Belle Rouselle’s jewelry line. The hairs for this pic are playfully cute and are from Vanity Hair.

Risk.Care.Dream.Expect. ~Derek Davis

This kicky cute mini- sundress the “Whimsy dress” is one of Sira Savira of 1 Hundred’s outfits for Hope For Emilia. The fitted sleeveless bodice, cinched loosely waist and flouncy skirt in a bespeckled satin is just plain fun! How could I not play up this cute look with Lamb’s Hat/hair and the adorable pink boots from *LpD*?

So with these new peeks at what can be yours, and the knowledge that you can so simply help others while gifting yourself, I hope this weekend you wander over and pick up items for your own unique wardrobes! Muwah! Have a peaceful weekend! I’ve had so much fun, I’ve even included the taxi for you!
