My Mind Quiets as I Play

My Mind Quiets as I Play

I actually took the day off from blogging seriously and it feels wonderful. Every now and again it happens. The words fade away. I think its because I’ve had a rather stressful few days both personally, professionally and Second Lifely. The perfect maelstrom of forces pulling me every which a way and requiring undivided attention that I do not have. So instead of beginning to blog items for The Couturier’s Dock, now that the SIM store is in place and ready to launch today March 29, 2013 at 1:00 PM SLT, I decided to step back and play a little. A month or so ago Belle Roussel of Chop Zuey (the jewelry store), gave me a folder full of her items. I told her at the time, I’ve so little time to spare, I don’t really blog individual designers anymore, but she kindly told me not to worry about it to just play with them from time to time because she liked my style. I thought that the grandest compliment! Thank you Belle.

My Minds Quiets as I Play

So today when I decided I just wanted to play with windlights and photography, I pulled on Chop Zuey’s Rocinantes Curve, styled around the pieces and headed over to Neva Crystall’s Neva River SIM. Such a gorgeous place, if you get a chance stop by there before it’s closed off again. As you may know, in Don Quixote, as written by Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote named his skinny little horse Rocinantes. There was much thought by Quixote in naming the horse. “Four days were spent in thinking what name to give him, because (as he said to himself) it was not right that a horse belonging to a knight so famous, and one with such merits of his own, should be without some distinctive name, and he strove to adapt it so as to indicate what he had been before belonging to a knight-errant, and what he then was.” Rocinantes is much like Don Quixote in that he is awkward, past his prime, and engaged in a task beyond his capabilities. Just like me this week. Don’t you love it when all the pieces fit together without fore thought!

My Mind Quiets as I Play

I spent an hour snapping pictures, refocusing my soul, and relaxing. My mind has quieted while I played. The take from? Yes. Don’t force life to happen, it will happen anyway. If you find you are just getting further and further behind. Stop, play a while, enjoy the view. You may never quite catch up to where you should be, but honestly, on the last day of your life, do you really think you will care? Life is about living. Have a wonderful weekend! I am feeling so much better about my day, I even included the taxi for you! Chop Zuey:

Baby.Booties.and.Being.There. If my mama sees me like this she’s going to librarian me upside the ‘ead with the dictionary

I’m at the age where all my friends are starting to have children. I decided a few years ago I wasn’t going to have any. No, I’m not defective, it’s my family, they are. About four years ago I asked my mum if she’d watch Katy (my Jack Russell Terrior-ist) for me while I went away for a weekend. I thought how bad could it be, I mean she raised me right? What a great weekend it was, practically “childless” and free to come and go as I pleased. But when I went to pick up the dog, she was hiding under the baby grand piano that tortured me as a child, hyperventilating like she was running the marathon. So like every good “mother” I asked my mum what the deal was, to which she replied without missing a beat, “she’s okay, she just swallowed three of my estrogen tablets from my nightstand.” Right away I decided there were two things I wouldn’t rush into, childbirth or menopause.

Baby.Booties.and.Being.There. Hey, Cao’s can Daisy Mae with the best of them. ;)

I digressed as usual, back to my friends. I don’t suppose it’s off-kilter to want children at a certain age, though I don’t really believe in the biological clock thing, why hurry in your thirty’s? I see forty something women having children all the time. My sister was one of those. At some point I suppose I was disappointed they all decided to get married or have significant “others,” I mean after all, I’m still not sold on the fact that the boys have cooties thing is all myth. But good friend that I am, I went along with them anyway and embraced all these men in their lives. If not genuinely, than at least figuratively I accepted they were mostly there to stay. This new chapter though, to me it’s overwhelming. They talk about cycles and child-rearing and tell me often enough I should have one too, that I don’t have to have a man to have a child. Huh? I must have been so embarrassed in that particular sex education class all the blood rushing to my face clogged my ears. What a novel concept. But I think I’ll wait though, I mean heck, I forget to feed myself often enough, I can’t imagine having the responsibility of feeding a little Cao. Sorry if this post it too much information, it’s actually tongue in cheek. Mostly. I suppose this new really sexy skirt from Leezu! has my mind a wandering and it filled the blog with some random absentminded thoughts today. Now, if I can just find where I put those birth control pills. Katy?

Take from? Naw. Even I can’t find one today. I did include the LM to Leezu! though, that should count for something. Taxi:

I don’t know, the day didn’t start out this way. Sometimes it’s there when you wake up, oft your day progresses normally but then at some point, some memory hidden deep in your soul, some key phrase or word from a friend or co-worker and it drops about you like a massive smothering cloak. Today I blame it on this BB King, Dave Matthews Band auditory concoction I’ve been imbibing on all morning. They always tend to bring out my more sensitive sensibilities. They make me feel, they make me think. Chains. We all have them. Responsibilites, addictions, all the pieces of flotsam and jetsam that leaves litter about the journey of our life. I suppose if we didn’t, we’d all float away into the sky. But honestly, what are we afraid of? Is floating away such a bad thing?

Chains.And.Things. L’Accessoires . Hat: Baoba, Lluvia . Necklace: MiWardrobe, Indigo . Earrings: Cherry, Larisa . Purse: Handverk, Flamingo .

Take from? yes. Short blog today, I am having focus problems. And since I’ve switched to Incubus’s “Morning View” I’ve already started to break some chains, that’s my breakup album. Life is so short, and honestly it can end with the quickness of an intake of breath. Do you suppose singer songwriter Jason Molina knew he would be dead at 39? Why do we choose to suffer with all these chains? If something is making you miserable, do you really owe a continued allegiance to it? Live a life that is fulfilling, it starts with one step. A purpose driven life is more about balance. Balance the chains that must adorn you, but unlink the chains that are just weighting you down. And while your floating about, check out L’accessoires. Lots of great finds this month! I’ve lost enough dead weight today, I can even afford the taxi for you: Taxi:

It is so close to the time. So close and I am so excited because this event weighs so heavy on my heart due to my best friend/sister in law dying of leukemia. I look forward to it every year, this is my third in Second Life and I hope you will lend a hand and help too. The wonderful part of SL’s Fashion for Life event is you don’t just donate, you receive a product for your donation, something you would possibly wish to buy anyway. All the designers items at donated to the charity at 100%. One person can make a difference. As stated on the RFL website, “Nowhere is that more evident than with the story of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, which began in Tacoma, Washington. In the mid-1980s, Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Tacoma colorectal surgeon, wanted to enhance the income of his local American Cancer Society office and to show support for all of his patients who had battled cancer. He decided to personally raise money for the fight by doing something he enjoyed – running marathons.” Dr. Klatt walked the track for 24 hours straight for his patients and with his friends raised $27,000 toward the cure. Don’t think cancer is some vague disease that will never effect you. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States alone. I personally lost my best friend/sister in law to leukemia at the age of 36 and watching the disease progress is devastating. There are many types of cancer, but all cancers start with a single abnormal cell. Abnormal cells multiply quickly. They spread to other parts of the body, invading healthy body tissue and organs, yet almost half of all cancer deaths can be prevented with early detection and treatment.

Relay For Life is the signature fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. The Relay For Life of Second Life is the largest, most successful fundraising event in our virtual world, raising more than $5.4 million in 2012. From noon March 9th 2013 to noon March 17th 2013, the biggest, boldest and most fabulous fashion event of the year will take place, helping to raise funds and awareness on behalf of the ‘American Cancer Society.’

I had planned to take only Friday off, but as life has it, sometimes the smallest of minutiae can toss you on your arse and leave you soundly and resolutely locked with inertia. Words can be more powerful and deadly than the dirtiest of bombs at times. Friday, a dear friend showed me that an unknown person took my profile picture and made it their own. Filled with self-righteous indignation, I went through the loops fondly known by me as Facebook non-administration, to confront the person. The nerve, impersonating me! (I know, I sound sanctimonious, right?) On Saturday, the person messaged me back with this:

“Im sorry but I take it from flicker and is this a sin like gaining any else pic for example when we use actress pic and singers and I thought its the same????? And I look at your fb profile im not stealing any pic just liked this pic on flicker and u also posted it on fb too dont have any bad idea about me and I dont want pretend any pic as me or my avi so delete that post on fb whoch said I stole your pic if u r gr8 in sl then im much more gt8er in rl.”

I couldn’t respond to the comments, Facebook wouldn’t let me, so I was left hanging in the wind, forming thoughts, words, and gasping for air. I was angry because I do feel putting someone, anyone’s, picture as your profile picture is misleading, but I also feel that just the fact that it IS an avatar may be worse than using a celebrity’s pic, because an avatar is one persons, the users, artistic rendition of their virtual selves, so in a vague way, it is stealing someone’s art. However, the occurrence was explained, I accept the explanation, so you would think I could move on. But, as I said, a complete lethargy overwhelmed me. Words are bombs. I am over the act of stealing the pic, but I can’t move past the last words spoken, and I have no recourse to address them; “if u r gr8 in sl then im much more gt8er in rl.” Hear that? Now THAT’s a verbal bomb. We all want to be liked, we all know there will be those who don’t like us. I’m not a Second Life avatar, I HAVE a Second Life avatar. Big Difference. I am a great and worthy person in real life, just as everyone else is.

I believe we should always try to walk with a soft tongue and an accurate measuring stick when chatting, whether in real life or a virtual life. I, myself, recently on two occasions, once inworld and recently when commenting on anothers blog, miscalculated the measure of my words and hurt the person at the other end. Inworld, since I was listening to the words following my err, I could pick up I had said something wrong, I asked what I said wrong and clarified my poor choice of words right then. I truly meant to say nothing wrong, in my haste to log, I accidentally short-handed my words to where they were construed as meaning something else entirely. On the blog, the offending term was pointed out to me and I immediately apologized. Words are bombs, they can hurt.

A take from? Yeah, there is. When you are chatting, verbally or written, before you say something think about it and word it to construe your best meaning. Also though, if you hear something and it offends/angers/upsets you, don’t stew on it, immediately say to the person, this is what I heard just then, is that what you meant to say? And always, always don’t just jump ship. Give the person a chance to explain their feelings, to find the rights words for what they meant. It’s so easy to just write people off, but what if by writing this person off, you have cut out one of the major players in the story of your life?

Betty Boop, of the racy black and white cartoon circa 1932, had a last gasp of fame in 1988’s “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” movie. Do you recall it? She’s does a cameo as the cigarette girl and when asked why she’s doing the “menial” labor, she replies “Work’s been kinda slow since cartoons went to color. But I’ve still got it. Boo boo be do, boo.” I wonder if those cartoonist from the 1930’s era could even imagine a time like the world today with Second Life? I know I can’t imagine a time without it! Just goes to show, never limit your ideas or think them crazy. Dream really crazy big, work hard and create and you too could be an Imagineer of the endless possibilies of tomorrow!

“No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace. As I have seen in one Autumnal Face. ~ John Donne

hath such grace. As I have seen in one autumnal face.” John Donne.

I don’t really ever get an Autumn, Florida has really only one season, or maybe two. Spring and Summer. But I have seen such wonderful, breathtaking, heart stopping photos. Enough so that its left me with a little bit of melancholy to gather with friends, jump in piles of leaves, drink hot cider, and listen to music. I read yesterday that designer Leezu Baxter of Leezu! is having a Celebrate Harvest Moon party. Everyone who knows me, knows what a recluse I am, but this NC hit right at the right time I suppose. No man is an island and I kind of want to meet you guys. If you get a chance, if you want to, stop by, I’d just love to meet you all. The best part? You can win some kick arse prizes! As an aside, I have no affiliation with Leezu! other than I blog them at times because I love the clothes there, so please come. =) I’ve included BOTH taxi’s for you!
