Falling Awake

I love sleep. My life has the tendency to fall apart when I’m awake, you know? ~Ernest Hemingway

I’ve had the davil of a time sleeping since my surgery last October and oft I walk around with the woozy feeling like my head is full of stuffed cotton. Just the smallest of things keeps me awake, Katy snoring like a lumber jack, the bright little light from the cable box shining in my eyes like it’s performing retina surgery. Heck, most days I wake up more tired than I was when I went to bed. It wouldn’t be so bad except it kind of spills over to my work. Just little things here and there. Nothing major. The day after the Super Bowl I showed up to work and mistakenly wore my pajama pants with a tunic over the top of them. I strutted that look like I’d just filched it from the current cover of Vogue magazine hoping none of them would be the wiser. Luckily I’m the only girl in my department so they are kind of getting the feeling it’s normal female work attire. The only guy who might of caught on chose to be quiet when I gave him one of my mum’s best stink eye looks. Naw, I haven’t perfected that yet, I told him I’d buy him a chicken sandwich if he kept quiet, they were right when they said a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.

The point of all of this? ‘Ell if I know. I just know that I bought one of those eye cover masks recently so I didn’t have to have the nightly eye surgery and as luck would have it, last night I also took one of my prescribed medications for the insomnia. I’m not quite sure what happened honestly. I woke up with a bizarrely sculpted bed head that I couldn’t quite get to go back down, my feet were on my pillow and my head hanging off the foot of the bed. Oh, and that eye mask thingy? Turns out at some point I had put it on upside down. You can just imagine the roaring effect it had on the office when I showed up wearing a black left shoo, a blue right shoo, a stunning wave in my hair and a crease deeply grooved into my face from my right ear, across my cheeks to my left ear. Yeah, I don’t think even Vogue has picked up on this trend yet, but face it, I totally nailed it! The real take from? Smile, at least you don’t have to wake up and be me. 😉

  1. LOL I have recently done it too! I was standing at the printer and something caught my eye at my feet, but I still didn’t realize. Hours later I sat on my chair again, pulling my self towards my desk when I noticed I have two completely different shoes on! I was so embarrassed lolol

  2. I don’t think I’ve ever had that happen, but feeling more tired than when I went to bed is definitely me.

I'm done inconveniencing electrons, any thoughts? Come on, you know you have 'em, post them up here.
