“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” ~William Arthur Ward

Most people know Thanksgiving is a holiday in the United States (November) and Canada (October) that is celebrated as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. But seriously, what’s wrong with just giving thanks for the sake of being thankful? It’s been found that being grateful tends to make us change our inner dwelling tendencies and soundly turns our focus out to the world about us and by turning our attention to the outside world we become more aware of the positives in our life, making us more mindful of what we DO have instead of drowning in a pity party of what we don’t.

I kinda like the thought of that. So much so I will start now. I am grateful for all of you, I truly am. I keep seeing these signs people hold up and hearing about events where “Black Lives Matter,” wouldn’t it be a wonderful world if the only sign we needed was one that said “All Lives Matter?” Don’t “Muslim Lives Matter” or “Jewish Lives Matter”, heck, how about  “Abused Partners and Children Matter” they do, don’t they? Don’t get me wrong, I understand the intent, but me?  I choose to stand up for the lives of the human race. We all matter, and that’s definitely a fact I am grateful for because I want to matter too. So today I am grateful for every human on this Earth. Oh, well, every human on this Earth but those who choose to believe some lives don’t matter. Yeah, I can’t be grateful for those guys. But for them I have to keep telling myself, in the words of author Melody Beattie, “Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” If I didn’t keep saying it, I’d have to stay in bed.
