“One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.” ~ Shannon L. Alder
The Couturier’s Dock is under way again. A new round, YAY! Lots of gorgeous pretties there too, so don’t miss out. I’ll cover some of the items the next few days, but I wouldn’t wait if I were you, the items are half the price of the mainstore and there are only 50 units of each item being sold. Today I’m doing something I don’t typically do, blog a skin, but Aleida Rhode of Elysium has been a friend of mine for a few years now. In fact a few years ago I was in the Face of Aleida finals. I didn’t win, no surprise since it was before I ever went to a modeling school, but I wouldn’t have entered the contest if I didn’t just love her creativity. This is the “Fei” skin in pale, and it is a gorgeous Asian skin. As a person who never changes skin, I can tell you honestly, this will be one of my preferred skins from now on. I instantly fell in Love with it.
Some of the other items I have on are from The Couturier’s Dock, so let me highlight them as well. The above is the Molly dress from HMAEM. It’s a gorgeous mini-length that includes matching shorts for underneath. The gold belt is included!
And above we have the scrumptious jewelry by Finesmith Designs and the darling BB dress from *SoliDea FoliEs*, which includes the adorable sunhat! Perfect for an Easter Sunday picnic, don’t you think? Well, I won’t spend a lot of time today, I know everyone is busy with family festivities. Take some time this weekend to enjoy those around you! A weekend of family and friends is always a weekend well spent! As an aside, all of these poses these next few days are from the pose fair going on right now. So if you get a chance definitely check them out like I did today, lots of great poses on sale.

Okay, I admit it. I am an anatidaephobic. An anatidaephobic has an irrational fear that somehow and somewhere in the world there is a duck watching them. o.O Yeah, your right, I’m not really that bad. Yet. I just think its a really cool word. I can’t imagine the person who decided to throw those letters together, they were probably paid by the letter. I’m not sure what brought up this topic, I think its because when I walked out this morning to begin the drive to work, the birds were going crazy. It was actually a little chillier than usual today, about 55F degrees. I suppose the birds were determined to force Spring to occur by singing catchy little tunes. I don’t know, it worked on me, I was mighty tempted to call into work with the “intentional” Spring flu. But then I was always easy to sway, as you can imagine when I was in highschool I got a lot of the “if your friends jumped off a bridge would you?” lecture from my mum. Which brings me to the take from. I know! I got here fast today! Having the fear you are being watched isn’t really irrational, at most points when you are in public you don’t suffer from invisibility and its not just the birds watching you, it’s people like me, watchers and thinkers. But if you move about the world with a positive demeanor, your head high, your shoulders back, a smile on your face, you know what? Something happens and you begin to actually feel more positive and happier, it’s called the placebo effect. Your brain is one of the most powerful things in the universe, it’s powers are still somewhat of a mystery. However, it is known that sometimes just believing in it’s ability to change your perception makes it possible to do so. You just have to believe it possible.
I’m at kind of an impasse this week, like I said, I don’t want to be at work, I don’t want to be in Second Life, I want to be outdoors watching as Spring sneaks it’s way in. But I am also in a temporary holding pattern waiting for the Fashion For Life’s “Tribute to Galliano Couture” Inspired show that will be held Saturday at 10:AM SLT. It is the last runway show for the Relay for Life-American Cancer Society event and I’ve seen the outfit I will wear and it is divine! If you want to be one of the first to purchase the incredible “Lolly” gown from *SoliDea FoliEs* there will be vendors available at the show. If you want to come and heckle a Lil Cao on the runway, I’d like that too. A lot. So if you get a chance, come on over. And don’t forget to bring that “we’re number one foam finger” you have tucked away. I want you there so bad, I’ve even included the taxi for you: Taxi:

Being single is pretty cool for the most part. Well it is now, it’s a little slow and uncreative at first, but after you become a pro at it you pretty much find a substitute for everything a regular couple has. You do, honestly! Here, ye of little faith, I’ll spell some of it out for you.
You coupled people; you know how when you come home from work and you rant and rave about the day you had? Your husband/boyfriend/other nods so sweetly and coos and offers to make you a toddy and to rub your feet? Yeah, uh huh, I’d like to meet THAT guy! 😉 Well I come home and tell my Jack Russell Terrior-ist, KT all about my day, she looks at me with those big brown eyes in her microcephalic head, I give her a treat and rub her belly. Hmm not quite the same, but you get the point it has the same effect.
Single girls have plenty of Intimacy. Hey, we do! Don’t be a hater; my best friend B.O.B. (battery operated boyfriend) makes up in innovativeness what he lacks as a conversationalist. Who likes all that sweaty, grunting and groaning anyway? I only wish I hadn’t accidentally taken him to goodwill last week with a bundle of clothes I was donating. (I know, I know, my poor mother). If we were catholic she’d be doing the Sign of the Cross right now.
You know how when you and your “other” get in an argument about his mother, he starts to ping at the little insecurities you have about your body? Oh wait, yeah. I ping at those little insecurities about my body every time I look in the mirror. Just kidding, the best part about enjoying being happily and healthily single is you typically love yourself, faults and all.
Would I throw it on like this, nah, most of the time, less is more. Well in less your naked under your accessories. All From L’Accessoires, except collar: Hat: Baoba, Fairies, Earrings: House of London, Mia Nugget Earrings. Arms: 22769, Nouvette sleeves. Left Hangbag: Handverk, Tetrahedron. Right Hand Bag: Eclipse. Collar: .Shi, Leather lace collar
Don’t get me wrong, I love, love, absolutely love coupledom and I am sure one day I will find “that” one who I think can put up with me for the rest of my life (or until he kills me.) I am just saying I like being a solitary single too. I guess my current happily ever after is to blog, to share teeny bits of my life, and to laugh until it hurts with friends and with you, my someday soon friends. If being this open strikes a smile, a chord of friendship or similarity of being with just one reader, I’d say my purpose to put it all out there is a success. I know it’s a altitudinous goal, but with you all traveling with me, I’d like to think it’s plausible. And in the words of Yogi Berra in my own way I plead, “half the lies said about me ain’t true.” Man, I sure do miss B.O.B though.

All business today. I am without a home for the moment, so the picture quality may decline a little bit. I shot and styled all of these in just an hour (incuding cropping). I hope the style stands on it’s own though. I’ll be the first to admit, I am not a model. A tiny fishing village does not equate to high fashion on any playing field. But, I am a thinker. And, a studier. As an aside, when I grew up I was taught to never start a sentence with “and” or “but.” When I went to college they said that particular rule of English structure has been thrown out the window. Ah well, so here I am, even I picked up some of those radical liberal viewpoints whilst being brainwashed in college. I’m glad my mom doesn’t read my blog, though, my common memory of her as I was growing up were comments like “don’t dangle your participle!” I’d imagine using and and but to lead a sentence would pretty much spell the end of her sanity. But… I digress, as I said. I am a studier and thinker.
Today I was following up on the current Trends for Spring 2013 as presented by Style.com. Thinking it over, I decided to try to throw my interpretation on them. I had one set back, Second Life’s Spring lines aren’t out yet. But I think I did okay, well okay for a Cao. Who’s not a model. I’ll start with the 2013 styles will include modern plays on the kimono. See above? I am starting here, because what can I say, I love kimono’s. But also, because this picture is about a year old. See you guys think I dress funny, sometimes I am just a year ahead of the trend. 😉
The second trend we should be seeing is a continuation of contrasting colors. Not just black and white, like seen here. Also, Blue and orange, red and green. It is typically what you would think is a cool color, like blue and team it with a warm color, like red. These are brought down to singular, basic colors, but with so many colors on a spectrum, the sky is truly the limit.
The next trend mentioned is collage. I earned a collage degree in 2008, oh wait. nevermind. I earned a college degree. The collage look is the use of sewing together different patterns to create a new look. They always seem to look a bit ethnic, or eclectic to me. Perhaps a bit Boho chic. Zaara is already in the game for this look since this is a last years sundress.
The next trend for Spring will be what is called “veiled” styling. There were a lot of sheer see-thru materials out this year during the RL fashion weeks. This one just hasn’t really come about much in Second Life yet, but it will be fun to see it if any designer’s decide to play with it. I’m wearing the sheer blouse from Gizza included in the Blazer suit outfit. (found by way of Chloe, kudos girl!). The rest of the look should be layered elements, but I stalled here due to time constraints and threw on a pair of quasi-layered pants.
The next fashion trend you should be seeing this Spring is the flounce. I really like this look there are a lot of romantic and elegant things you can create with a flounce. Without the adorable layers of this dress, it would lose a lot of its depth and would be too plain to wear for anything other than everyday wear. I particularly love this look for Second Life because it adds a 3 dimensional effect in a basically two dimensional world.
And last, but certainly not least, and this is afterall, a look I wear more than others is the alpha female trend. Fuller eyebrows on women are back in (think Brooke Shields in the 70’s), as well as man cut jackets and pants. I like the look, but tend to like to soften it up some with things like wearing a bra as a shirt, or feminine jewelry.
Take from? Well of course, Second Life modeling isn’t really about playing dressup with your Barbie doll. You need to keep up with current styles, learn new styles or create a new trend in styles. It’s fun to throw on clothes, but to be the best at something you need to lead others by introducing those looks other avatars will crave to wear and own. I hope this was enough to get you excited about the coming Spring Fashions. Heck, I am just a lil Cao, a non-model. Just imagine what YOU could do! SLURLS are under the “Last known SLURLS page.

Quick blog today, so many things still left to do and running out of time. I rather errantly chose this week to uproot my home, while mix and matching away for the Salimar Luxury District’s grand opening party today at 12PM SLT. Oh, and writing the script and the general details of helping out where I can. You know how it is, making sure we have enough refreshments, and that there is toilet paper in the loo, waxing the runway, just stuff so easy even a Cao can do it. I do hope you will be there, remember one customer will win all the outfits the models are wearing, so it’s a huge grand prize! So don’t be late! Look! I’ma good girl, I sent the limo: Limo:
Belle Roussel, the incredible designer of Chop Zuey showed me some love a few weeks ago by dropping quite a few items on me and let me tell you, they are all incredible! I don’t want to call them jewelry, they are more art than jewelry. I am going to bring them out one or two at a time because each set it singularly blog worthy. I love Chop Zuey, the pieces there are substantial and never get lost on the runway. In Fact, I love it so much, I’ve even included the taxi.Taxi: But don’t dawdle to long there today, you have a grand opening to attend!
Take from? But of course! Sanity is highly over-rated. Every once in a while, let your hair down, push away obligations, dance barefoot in your knickers in a public fountain (well maybe not that one, I think I am the only one who can get away with that). But in all ways, enjoy your life, afterall, its the only one you have.

The quote is so sad, and yet so true. I think style is something in ones genetic makeup, you either have it or you do not. It is noted in a person who just has a natural knack for colors, materials, and the positive way of mixing them together but, in others, they just never seem to “get it right” or, at the least, like me, have to dig deep, and work harder to get there. I think in its base sense it is controlled by whether you are prone to thinking with the left or the right side of the brain. The wonderful thing about the brain though is the fact that you DO indeed have both sides. And you can use the influence of either side with practice.

I wasn’t going to say anything, but I’ve been told a couple of times, I need to offer more guidance to beginning models, so I will. I recently judged something with the theme of “Cubism” and though I know it is a difficult to interpret subject, I went away more than a little disappointed. Cubism at the most basic is to take a natural form and fragment it into something abstract. Period. How do I know? I researched it, I researched the words, I researched images. Took maybe 5 minutes to figure where I would have gone with this theme.
You get out of your Second Life Modeling career, exactly what you put into it. So if what you strive to do is lead, and create something bigger than yourself, in a virtual sense, the first step is always, stop and think. Where do I want to end up, how do I get there? period. Start with a concept, build the steps to how to succeed. It’s not like these “themes” happen every day, so when you DO have them, take a little time to get it right. I’m not talking about the pics of a blog, sure, like my pics here, the stylings need to be simple, because you are bringing a set item(s) to the attention of the viewer. I am only speaking of the mix and match theme projects we get asked to do for mags, or contests, or, like in the above “cubism”, a casting or class graduation.
As an example, the winter elf from yesterday. I created a look, and sent a pic to Skip, so he would know what was coming. I hate to show it, but here it is: Link: But then, I sat back, thought, what a load of crap. So I did it right, where do I want to end up, what do I want this winter elf to look like? How do I get there? And then went about putting the elements together, in what I hope was a more pleasing way. And yes, sometimes, it takes time. But why bother, if you aren’t going to give it your best? Jumps off Soap Box.
YAY! And the take from, there always is one. Don’t be a hater because someone always seems to be styled perfect all the time, they actually can’t help the way they are anymore than you can, its genetics. Use their styles to learn, network and learn from them WHY they put certain aspects of their styles together that way. And really, there is no penalty for researching the style you want to create, especially on theme based castings. Sometimes, even when I don’t have a theme to style, I research and pull from the Internet pics I like, styles I like, items that catch the eye, or “things to try” and pull them aside. Just ask Skip, sometimes I send him four or five pics with a “do you want to do any of these?” before I style. It’s okay to borrow imagination, just add your own flourish to it.
I know, this is a long one. I hope you read parts of it and took out what you wanted. If its all rubbish, then I am sorry to have wasted your time, but I hope, for at least a few of you, it was a help. I just want to leave you with the words of Coco Chanel. “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” For a taxi to L’Accessoire’s just click on their logo found on the right side of the page. See? right side rather creatively has made it easier for you to get there from here.
Once when I was in line at the grocer I was behind a couple who were chatting. From their desultory converse I picked up he was a hunter (as if the attire wouldn’t give it away) and one of the things I overheard made me smile inside. He mentioned to his wife that his favorite thing to hunt was in his home, a “dear face and a bare arse.” That saying has stuck with me for a bit now, honestly can’t seem to shake it. So I pull it out from time to time for a little laugh.
Today I am going to blog about pose makers again, I seem to be on a roll, this is my fourth in just a few weeks, but its been fun to blog “from the other point of view.” And the way I do it is kind of fun. I cycle through a few of the poses and try to figure out what the sequence “means” to me, then style myself. But, having seen and used Lib of LibDescents poses in the past, as well as following his blog, I knew his poses are quirky and artistically eclectic, so I wanted to create the style then add the poses. I volleyed around using the swan outfit from Ladies Who Lunch, but after the second day, the excitement left again. A little down, something made me think of my happy phrase “A dear face and a bare arse,” which of course reminded me of the incredibly cool group gift from Aliza Karu of AD Creations Dollhouse, which in turn made me wonder if a man says this statement to his human girlfriend, what does the animal buck deer say to his? I know, I think really weird like that. Bet your happy you don’t have to travel in my brain, right?
Well, if I was a lady deer, I’d dress like this, but more importantly when I saw a buck coming, I’d flash him a few of those poses as well. As an aside to my best dragon, see? I can even work knickers into my non-human looks. So there! I am unrepentant, yet thoughtful too, because I even included the, um, hunting buggy for you! Happy Hunting! Taxi:

I wonder why, in Second Life, it is so impossible to pass up on purchasing a dress you wouldn’t dare to wear in real life? I don’t know the answer to the question, but I am glad I can buy it. I just hope my mama doesn’t see me in it.
